Atul promises Gyanada's father on his death bed that he'll take her responsibility. Villagers start gossiping about Gyanada and Atul. Gyanada's aunt who is also related to Atul is against this match. She plans and sends Gyanada and her mother to her maternal uncle's house. She sends Atul to meet her brother-in-law's daughter Madhuri in Kolkata. Atul develops liking for Madhuri and starts ignoring Gyanada. He refuses to accept Gyanada. This disheartens Gyanada's mother and she falls sick. Atul's mother reminds him how Gyanada had nursed him back to health when he was sick. Atul starts feeling guilty. But Gyanada never asks Atul to accept her. She bears the insults silently.
