John demands answers to questions that Hank can't answer. In private, Hank tells Althea that he agrees with John's theory that there may be a spinal injury. Steve phones Erich's nursemaid and orders her to keep Erich at the Aldrich apartment for the time being. Steve and Carolee debate the situation with Karen, and Steve refuses to allow Carolee to stay with him when he talks with Karen. After Carolee returns to the hospital, Karen emerges from the bedroom. Steve confronts her with her past overdose. He says that he can't risk a third attempt, and as such, he thinks it would be best if Erich stayed with him and Carolee. When Karen forbids it, he tells her that given what just happened, she doesn't have a choice. Karen pleads with him to please not take her child away from her. Althea finds John furiously attempting to move his legs to no avail. He accuses her of causing his paralysis.
