Mike and Toni enjoy their time alone in Martha's house. Althea returns from the airport before John decides to go home. When he finally arrives, Althea lights into him for going home early so that he'd have a clear field to say bad things about Nick to her mother. John defends his actions, arguing that all of his points regarding Nick's brutish behavior are true. Althea counters that Nick wasn't solely to blame. He said things that night in the heat of anger, and she provoked his temper. John coldly suggests that Althea has an uncontrollable compulsion to protect Nick no matter what he does. It's a flaw in herself that she denies. As their argument escalates, John packs his bags. Leaving the apartment, he snaps that he's going to stay in a hotel and wait for Althea to sort herself out. Matt phones Maggie from Hope Memorial to say that the explosion crisis is over. He reassures her about the incident with Greta and the missing $5.
