John receives a phone call from Penny. Althea doesn't necessarily agree with Maggie's assertion that John has a keen perception of Althea's relationship with Penny. John informs Althea that Penny called him then stuns her with an astute analysis of what happened in Althea and Nick's marriage and how it affected Penny. Althea quietly thanks John for speculating that Penny's psychological wounds have healed. Later, Althea can't forget Maggie's observation that Althea has gotten what she wants but isn't happy. Nick expresses supreme sympathy for Althea when he finds out that she stayed late for a consult with John. Althea reacts defensively at Nick's lament that she's working with a man she hates.
