The notorious neighborhood known as ZEN was designed by architect Vittorio Gregotti and built in 1969 on the outskirts of Palermo. It has never completed and its inhabitants have always been neglected by public institutions and considered as outcasts by the rest of the citizens. The residents of the ZEN talk about their lives, their struggles to make a living in an area dominated by crime, mafia and illegal trafficking. The beginning of construction of the new shopping center next to the ZEN may be a turning point of the protagonists' lives. The film is a unique and harsh portrait of "an island within an island".
