Eventually, Maggie broaches the subject of having a child together. Matt agrees that the issue of children is something they should discuss further. Matt's emergency line rings, interrupting their bliss. Carolee informs Matt that he has a telegram, and she's afraid it could be urgent. After hearing the message and hanging up, Matt admits to Maggie that the telegram was from Karen, who will be returning. The pleasant afternoon then dissolves when Maggie wants to talk about the night Matt and Karen were stranded at the Harrison farm. Matt wishes to avoid the talk, but when Maggie pursues the subject, he is forced to reveal Karen's confession that she's in love with him.
