He meets a curious doe and names her RaggedyAnn and after 2 years she finally comes closer and makes a decision he is safe to approach and comes within inches of his face. He touches her and they are both changed. He comes to realize she is the leader of this large herd and not by leading by dominance but by being gentle. He is now accepted by the herd and into the hierarchy and learns its rules. They are not tame and will run if another human approaches. Mule Deer have been illegally hunted for generations are may disappear in the Rockies if not more protected. The have the largest brain of all deer and are very curious.
