Ikeda, born in 1968, in Moriyama-ku, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, tells Dawna that because both his parents were employed, he spent much of his spare time in front of the TV. It was then that he knew his goal was acting and more specifically to be a film dancer like his hero Gene Kelly. Though he attended he entered Tsuru University and graduated with a B.A. in English literature in 1992, Ikeda says he never lost site of his Kelly-like ambition.
