Jimmy starts the show by receiving a singing telegram for his birthday five months early. His first number is the Dixieland classic, "Alabama Jubilee" with banjo accompaniment. His first number is the Dixieland classic, "Alabama Jubilee" with banjo accompaniment. The Noteworthies, a vocal quintet, contribute "Come Softly to Me". Jimmy goes into the audience to interview 'normal folks' and talks to 'Bridget Bardot' and 'Marlon Brando' who have never heard of their acting namesakes. While in the audience, Jimmy also talks to young Patty McCormack about her upcoming TV series Peck's Bad Girl. Jimmy announces that his show will be canceled effective July 1, 1959 and begs his viewers to mail him wrappers from his sponsor's bar of soap to show their support for his program. Snooky Lanson sings "Miss You" and banters with Jimmy about some of the not-so-good songs he sang on Your Hit Parade. They discuss how some tunes became hits after the lyrics were changed using the Rodgers and Hart song, "Prayer (Oh Lord, Make Me a Movie Star)" which later became "Blue Moon" and Irving Berlin's "Smile and Show Your Dimples" - which became "Easter Parade" as cases in point.
