SUMMARY
A drama that tells the story of artist Jackson Pollock's niece, Brooklyn-born Rena "Rusty" Glickman, the only person of Jewish descent to receive Japan's highest civilian honor -- The Emperor's Order of The Rising Sun. As a twelve-year-old, Rusty learned about the horrors of the Holocaust and resolved THAT was not going to happen to her. She would be better and stronger than THEM -- THEY would not win this time. She didn't know how, but then she found judo -- a sport at which she excelled but from which women were excluded. So in 1959 and then a single mother, Rusty decided to compete in the New York State Judo Championships while disguised as a man. In a stunning upset, Rusty beat the reigning State Champion -- but as she stood on the podium to receive her gold medal, THEY asked if she was a girl. When she acknowledged that she was, the organizers took back her medal! Rusty vowed THIS was not going to be the end of HER story, and it wasn't -- many accomplishments followed. She is honored worldwide and her ashes are interred in Israel and in Kumamoto, Japan, in the tomb of the Great Samurai Kanokogi Written By Val Verse  Less
