Uncle David: "If he's coming, it's something for you to do for him and not vice versa." Sure enough, Simon's Park Avenue apartment building is being torn down, and he plans to go to Europe for the four weeks it will take for his new apartment to be made ready for him. In the meantime, he offers Jake and Molly the "housewarming gift" of his two French servants to come to work for the Goldbergs while he is away, so that they don't leave his employment. Molly cleans the house thoroughly before they arrive, and gives them her bedroom, while she and Jake sleep on the convertible sofa-bed in the living room. Soon, the bills for gourmet food and liquor and automobile maintenance threaten to put Jake in debt for the next six months. Molly's friends are all mad at her because she can't "talk freely when help is present." David misses Molly's noodle soup and plain boiled chicken. Also, Harry the bookkeeper informs Jake that everyone on his staff wants a raise now that they see him arriving at work in a chauffeur-driven car. Molly's solution is for Jake to pay for the two servants to stay for two weeks at Pincus Pines, even though the only room left is the honeymoon suite.
