The letter leads into the story of what happened earlier that day that lead to his decision. He tells of his trip to a hotel to have sex with someone he met on a website. As he journeys through the hotel we enter Phillips thoughts on relationships and people in them. He admits his need to have sex with complete strangers and why. Arriving to the room leads to an unexpected twist that leaves him in shambles.
