Cryptically, his family inquires about Frederic's well-being at the dinner table, as we slowly discover that Fred has in fact been secluded in that house for almost the entirety of his life. The puzzles he makes, are the closest thing to the outside world he has. Fred's story depicts the impossibility of breaking from our perceptibility in order to achieve what we truly desire.
