One of the wedding guests, handsome Australian Alex, whom Saz assumes was her 'number nine',tells her that she was too drunk for intercourse on their night together, and she is unwise enough to tell Dan that her plan has been thrown off course. The couple row and she goes home to mother, where elder sister Beth rebukes her for her obsession with numbers, citing popular old flame Eddie as a happily married man with none of Saz's hang-ups about statistics.
