Wishing to celebrate his good fortune, Bob writes Grace, a girl friend, asking her to take dinner with him that evening at the Charles Hotel. Grace is on the point of accepting, when a telegram arrives informing her of the illness of a dear girl friend out of town and asking her to come at once. Grace 'phones Bob that she cannot keep the engagement with him, and prepares to catch the next train. Bob is downcast until he thinks of Rose, another girl, calls her and finds her very willing to dine with him. In the small private dining room at the hotel that evening. Bob and Rose are enjoying themselves, when Bob's valet brings him a telegram from Grace, stating her friend's illness was not serious, and that she will come direct to the hotel from the depot to keep her engagement. With two girls on his hands, Bob is stumped. Excusing himself to Rose, he hikes to the lobby where he secures the help of a bell-boy to assist him in entertaining both girls without either suspecting. Grace arrives and Bob conducts her to the adjoining private dining room. Their dinner is nicely started when the boy summons Bob to the "lobby." Instead, Bob hustles in to Rose, and so it starts. Bob hustles from one room to another at the summons of the bellboy and managing to keep the girls from suspecting. He finally gets into a taxi and returns to Rose. But Grace has left her purse, returns for it and meets Bob and Rose in the hotel entrance. Result, Bob is accused of being a deep-dyed scoundrel and i» deserted by both girls, leaving him to collapse on the sidewalk as he gazes woefully after them and thinks of two miserably spoiled dinners and good money spent for nothing.
