Though the possessor of a large estate, he is heavily in debt. He decides that he will have to give his daughter in marriage to a man of wealth. His wishes are gratified when John Meyerson, a rich American, sees Germaine at the Duke de Beaulieu's ball and proposes to her. Though she rebels against this man whom she inwardly despises, she is willing to sacrifice herself for her father, and promises to marry the American millionaire. De Vijon and his daughter go to America to visit Meyerson. While out motoring, Germaine meets with an accident and is thrown from the car. She is taken into a nearby house, which turns out to be the studio of Charles Lindgard, a young American artist. When Germaine recovers her composure, and sees a picture of herself upon the artist's easel, having been copied from a picture in a newspaper, she learns that she is Lindgard's ideal of womanhood. Where an ideal exists there is sure to be a harmony of taste, and love is a natural outcome. Germaine is soon as deeply in love with Lindgard as he is with her. But she remains true to her promise to Meyerson and tells the artist that her life is dedicated to another. Lindgard advertises for an artist's model and engages Inez, a young Mexican girl, daring and piquant in appearance, who is almost overcome with surprise when she sees a photograph of Meyerson in Lindgard's studio and recognizes it to be that of her husband. Meyerson and Germaine, with her father, are at the magistrate's office, getting the marriage certificate when Lindgard and the Mexican girl rush in and accuse the millionaire of his duplicity. He is taken into custody by the police and marched off to jail. Overcome by the shock of the surprise, De Vijon succumbs to heart failure. Lindgard sustains Germaine in her hour of trial and she willingly accepts him as her husband. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
