She isn't aware that there is a medical convention in town, and as such, she takes the sisters up on their offer to stay at the convent to get away from the shop talk that would happen if she stayed at the hotel. But Jennifer is bombarded with one medical issue after another, starting with her own sister in the hospital with a hairline fracture, then Sister Jacqueline with a twisted ankle, Sister Sixto with a chronic case of heartburn, the Reverend Mother with a bad back, and Sister Enid with bursitis. At a big party for the bishop that evening, the sisters order Jennifer not to tell anyone that she is a doctor, otherwise she will be inundated with medical questions all evening. First, Carlos tells the Mayor that Jennifer is a potter, the Mayor being an avid potter. Second, Carlos tells the Countess Avecchi that Jennifer is a bookkeeper, the Countess who is fascinated by anything to do with finances. And third, when Jennifer tells the bishop that she works with her hands, he assumes she's a concert pianist, an assumption Jennifer and Carlos confirm. When the bishop asks her to play the piano at the party, she is saved when Louisa, a party guest, goes into labor and requires medical attention. After Louisa gives birth to her triplets, Jennifer finally gets her R&R: she is admitted to the hospital for extreme fatigue. Sharing a room with her sister, Sister Bertrille thinks she is saving Jennifer by explaining to people that "Dr." Ethrington is a veterinarian. However Jennifer's R&R is short lived as people start coming to her with pet problems. Written by Huggo See less
