In Paris, Robin finds that Dupre's pretty widow is friendly with Rosaire, a known criminal, and Schroeder, a railroad detective who had been traveling with Dupre when he died. After Rosaire tries and fails to first bribe then kill him, Robin realizes that the thieves cannot sell the stolen diamond until it is re-cut. He seeks out and finds Van Hessen, a lapidary who is going to re-cut the gem because of threats to his family. Through a ruse Robin lures the thieves and the diamond into the Van Hessen home where, after the diamond has seemingly been smashed to bits, Robin apprehends the criminals and recovers the genuine Granada diamond.
