But Phil is not so enthusiastic until mother-in-law insist that he buy some life insurance in order to provide for his wife after his death. Immediately after buying the policy, Phil reads in the newspapers of a man claiming that his mother-in-law used poison in effort to collect insurance. As he leaves the insurance office, a rope from an awning entangles him and he believes it is a plot to kill him. A light globe drops behind him and he again fears a plot by his mother-in-law. A garden rake hits him in the back, a trunk slides down stairs and crashes into him, a carpet sweeper drops on him, he is given a glass filled with gasoline instead of water and then drinks water from a goldfish bowl--all tending to make Phil think his life is being sought by his mother-in-Iaw. When he becomes pale from eating the old fish, he is sure the woman is after his insurance. Phil calls for help and goes to bed. The doctor arrives b~ Phil tells him he is going to pretend death and see what happens. The insurance agent is summoned as well as the coroner. His face covered with white powder, the coroner thinks he is dead and starts to perform an autopsy. A negro servant sees him walking around like a dead man and is scared stiff. In the wild melee, the house is nearly wrecked, but the powder comes off and Phil admits he is very much alive. Written by Copyright Description from Library of Congress See less
