Before the time expires, the firm for which Gleason has worked for many years orders him to proceed to Australia to manage a branch office there. He visits the agent, who refuses to let him out of the lease; he threatens to make him pay out 3 full years' rent if he moves. Returning home very discouraged, he sits down to think things over: how can he get himself peremptorily ordered to leave? He gets a brilliant idea and heads out to invite all the young children he sees on the street to come to his apartment for a real good time. This they have with a vengeance: dancing, singing, and racing about to their hearts' content. the full rent for the three years if he moves. Of course, the next move is a visit to the agent to ask to be allowed to break the lease. To this din is added the barking of dogs, which are also brought along, a few being tied to the stair railing, to the terror of the other tenants, who in a body hasten to the Gleasons' to ascertain the trouble. Meanwhile, Mrs. Gleason has gone home to her mother to relate their predicament; she returns at the height of the frolic. For a moment she believes her husband has gone mad, but when he tells her the scheme, she is overcome with laughter. The incensed tenants bring the agent onto the scene, and to the Gleasons' great delight, he orders them to vacate the apartment. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
