Whether it's about the do-it-yourself advice he has written, furnishing his house or his marriage: the loyal father of a family leaves nothing to chance. His wife Friederike observes her husband's addiction to control with a mixture of annoyance and loving ridicule. But Christoph is not only an obsessed perfectionist - he also has a pronounced tendency towards hypochondria. And one day that leads to Christoph believing that he is terminally ill with cancer - the attending physician had only switched the X-ray image because Christoph had pushed forward again during the consultation hour. The most important question for the supposedly doomed man is now: How should his family continue to live without him? Out of sheer care, Christoph decides to keep Friederike secret about his illness and to secretly look for a worthy successor via a personal ad. With the involuntary support of his best friend, the Catholic Father Alois, he sifts through tons of bizarre videos of candidates and even hosts a barbecue evening with three old school friends - all singles, but completely useless. The awkward esoteric freak Paul still seems to have the most potential. So Christoph decides to "spice up" his old friend a little with the help of the beauty advisor Suse. Friederike is visibly irritated by this new kind of friendship between men - so the compliments and little flirtations of the charming craftsman Klaus are just in time for her. When her husband catches the two of them in flagrante delicacy, events come thick and fast: Christoph is admitted to the hospital after falling down the stairs, where he already thinks he is on his deathbed. At the same time, Friederike and Alois learn the truth about his supposed cancer, but Christoph has already stormed out of the hospital to end his life.
