She arrives late one day and her employer is on the verge of firing her, when he notices her weak condition. He orders her to return home and raises her salary ten dollars a week. In her absence, Jeffries comes to realize how much he misses the girl and when she returns it is with real pleasure that he welcomes her. Jeffries' secretary has long admired the stenographer. Friendship between Jeffries and his stenographer grows to love and after a brief courtship they leave for a honeymoon. The secretary is left in charge of the business and neglects the firm's business to speculate on his own account. He becomes suddenly wealthy. Jeffries returns to find his business in a precarious condition and is unable to avert the ruin which threatens him. He becomes ill and because of the low state of their finances, proper medical attention cannot be secured. Their doctor tells the wife that unless Jeffries gets proper attention, there is no hope for him. Cecil receives a note from an artist offering her a large sum to pose for a picture in the nude, and is torn between a desire to get money to care for her husband and fear of the consequences of her taking the offer. She finally takes the place. With the money she secures, Jeffries get much needed attention and starts on his recovery. The wife tells him that she is working as a stenographer. The picture is finished and the former secretary, now rich succeeds in buying the picture. Jeffries recovers his lost fortune and he and Cecil lead a happy home life. One day they attend an exhibition of paintings. Among the exhibits is the picture Cecil posed for, and the news gets out that Mrs. Jeffries posed for the picture. Jeffries hears the rumor and finds it to be true. He denounces his wife, who in turn tells him that by exposing her body, she was instrumental in saving his life and that she is through with him. She leaves for home to pack her belongings. A realization of his wife's sacrifice comes over Jeffries and he returns home, and seeking out his wife, begs her forgiveness, promising her that he will buy the picture himself.
