She is besieged by creditors and after failing to borrow money without her husband finding it out, she appeals to a gentleman friend of the family. He loans her the money and later, her husband finding receipts signed by his friend, demands an explanation from his wife, whom he unjustly suspects of too close an intimacy with the friend.
