At the first station the train stops, and a fat man gets on the car in which she is seated. He tries to be courteous to her, but she repulses him when he offers to open the window for her. As he opens the window, a cinder gets into his eye. He tries to get it out and the girl laughs at his efforts. Suddenly, a cinder lodges in her eye, causing her considerable annoyance, and while he cannot help smiling, he sympathetically offers her an eyestone, which removes the cinder. After this they become very friendly, and before she reaches her destination her fat friend asks her to marry him. She is not altogether averse to such a proposition, for she finds him very companionable. He presents his card, and she sees that he is the very man she has been running away from.
