Joanne Vannicola began her professional career at age 12 when she made her television debut in her hometown of Montreal. By 14 she had moved to Toronto to work and study. By the age of 17 she had written her first play.
The Toronto film and television community quickly embraced this versatile young actor.
Vannicola made her feature film debut in Deny Arcands Love And Human Remains, based on the award-winning Brad Fraser play Unidentified Human Remains And The True Nature Of Love.
The MAX Films/Atlantis Films feature, which earned her a Genie nomination, had a wide theatrical release to great critical acclaim. Vannicola reunited with director Deny Arcand, in Stardom, as well as having played other roles in several feature films.
Vannicola won an Emmy Award for her performance in the title role of Maggies Secret on CBS and was nominated for a Gemini Award for the CBC TV series 9B, in which she had a recurring role. Among her more then 50 television credits are the movies-of-the-week To Save The Children (CBS),The Ultimate Betrayal(CBS), Derby (ABC), Common Ground (Showtime),The Stalking Of Laurie Show (US), In The Dark (TMN) and guest star appearances in the series Degrassi, Rookie Blue, Thoughtcrimes, Mutant X, Relic Hunter and one of the lead investigators as a regular on the series PSI Factor. Vannicola also played Dr. Naadiah, a recurring role on the acclaimed CBC series Being Erica. Her most recent film role was in the movie Stonewall, directed by Roland Emmerich.
Vannicola also enjoys working in animation and has been in the animated series Seven Little Monsters, Beyblades, Medabots, Timothy Goes to School, Gerald McBoing Boing and her run as Willy on My Dad the Rock Star.
Vannicola just finished writing a memoir entitled, Walking Through Glass, and is seeking publication while also writing a pilot with Richard Jutras for a new series that is currently in development.
